Victoria Ranks 3rd “Dirtiest Town” in British Columbia, Says Pest Control Company

A recent report from a Canadian pest control company indicates that there may be a rat nest in a few island towns.

Orkin Canada recently released its top 20 most “failed” cities in British Columbia, and Victoria comes in third behind Burnaby in second and Vancouver in first.

The ranking is based on the number of treatments for rodents (rats and mice) that Orkin responded to in each city from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021, according to the company. They say it includes both residential and commercial treatments.

This isn’t the first time Victoria has made the top three, according to Orkin. Victoria has been ranked as the second most “disgusting” city in the province since 2017, dropping to third this year.

Nanaimo and Duncan are also on the list, arriving at 16 and 18, respectively.

  2. Burnaby
  3. Victoria
  4. Surrey
  5. Kelowna
  6. Richmond
  7. Vernon
  8. Abbotsford
  9. Langley
  10. Coquitlam
  11. Chilliwack
  12. Port Coquitlam
  13. North Vancouver
  14. Delta
  15. West vancouver

Orkin says the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted rodents due to the depletion of resources such as food and less human activity. They say it made them move more freely and be more daring to get food.

Filling holes in foundation holes, pruning trees and shrubs, removing sources of moisture, and inspecting rodents are things Orkin says residents can do to prevent rodent problems.
