Colombian government chooses Vitalpass, co-created by Auna Ideas and built on Algorand Blockchain, as the nation’s official digital vaccination passport

Bogota – Colombia, September 10, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Vitalpass, the digital COVID-19 vaccination passport co-created by Auna Ideas Foundation and Koibanx and developed using the Algorand blockchain, has been chosen by the Colombian government as the official vaccination certificate. Colombia is the first country of Latin America adopt this technology, joining the ranks of others who are already doing so, including Singapore, Japan, South Korea and New York City .

This initiative was made possible by Auna’s commitment to immunization in Colombia and Peru, and through partnerships with local and national governments. An important step in Colombia and Latin America, Vitalpass was co-designed by the Innovation and HealthTech division of Auna Ideas as part of their commitment to provide comprehensive health solutions. This digital vaccination passport is free and cannot be tampered with, as it creates a permanent and unalterable record on Algorand Blockchain, which is a decentralized public network specifically designed for global applications that can scale to mass adoption.

Vitalpass was developed with technological support from Koibanx, a LATAM company with over 6 years of experience implementing blockchain-based transactional and asset tokenization solutions for the financial and government sectors.

“The use of blockchain technology makes this digital passport one of the most secure and reliable tools to ensure the transparent process of vaccination in Colombia, because the information cannot be modified, erased or manipulated, thus ensuring the validity of the certificate against cases of falsification, double vaccination or others ”, said Dr Andrés Vásquez, Director of Biomedical Innovation and Technology of health at Auna Ideas.

The Auna Ideas Foundation granted the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Colombia free and perpetual rights to deploy VitalPass as a country tool to certify the COVID-19 vaccination of its citizens before any national or international agency. Similar agreements should be signed with other governments in Latin America.

Vitalpass is part of the Commontrust network, where several organizations around the world have joined forces to give patients digital access to their health data using open, interoperable and verifiable standards. Additionally, negotiations are underway to log into GreenPass, the European Union’s digital COVID-19 vaccination certification system.

With this initiative, Auna, through the Auna Ideas Foundation, reaffirms its commitment to fight COVID-19 and harness innovation to transform the care experience of a growing number of families into Latin America.
